A New Place to Gather: The Field Comes to Flax Bourton

There is some genuinely exciting news for Flax Bourton. This September, the former Dew Drop Inn—more recently known as The Jubilee—is due to reopen as The Field Farmshop & Kitchen, bringing one of the village’s most prominent buildings back to life after standing closed for more than three years.

The new venture is being created by Mark and Amy Warburton, the founders of the Bristol-born restaurant group Cow & Sow. Their aim is to create not simply somewhere to shop and eat, but a warm and welcoming place where local people can meet, spend time together and celebrate.

At the heart of The Field will be a farm shop selling produce grown at Cow & Sow’s Kitchen Farm directly across the road. It will also offer fresh bread, dairy products, pantry goods, British meat, flowers, gifts and homewares.

Alongside the shop will be a 70-seat café and restaurant, serving breakfast, brunch and lunch, with coffee, a licensed bar and an outdoor terrace accommodating more than 40 people. The Field is expected to remain open into the evening on selected days.

Future plans are equally interesting, including meeting and event spaces, a test kitchen and a cookery school offering courses and demonstrations. The team also hopes to organise seasonal events, workshops and other community activities.

We warmly welcome The Field to Flax Bourton and wish everyone involved every success. New local businesses become part of village life when local people support and enjoy them, so we hope residents will call in once the doors open—whether for a morning coffee, a loaf of fresh bread, lunch with friends or simply to see what has been created.

Flax Bourton already has a strong and active community. The Field offers an opportunity to strengthen that spirit further: somewhere neighbours can meet, newcomers can feel welcome and residents and visitors alike can enjoy good food and local produce in attractive surroundings.

After several quiet years at this familiar site, it will be wonderful to see the lights on, the doors open and people gathering there once again.
